One Armed Bandit
Love. It's been the subject of book, song, film and countless other emotional outlets. Heartache is the thing we fear most, yet somehow we find ourselves blindly chasing that 'butterflies-in-your-stomach' feeling we get when someone tickles our fancy. It's been said "only fools rush in"... but what are we to do with such a paralyzing grip of feelings the heart bestows upon us? Love, as they say, is blind. So, we take that chance... we gamble... we reluctantly put all of our chips in the middle. Nobody ever knows what cards the other player holds. But sometimes, we can win. We can break even. But love isn't easy. It takes patience, hard work, trust, understanding and laughter. The reward we receive from love is priceless... the ultimate pay-off... the jackpot! Regardless of who/whatever it is you love most, let it be your Royal Flush. Nurture it... go all in... take the chance... gamble. Because life is too short to play it safe.
As Valentine's Day rapidly approaches, we're wondering what you have planned. Maybe a quiet, romantic, candle-lit dinner? ...that dress or blazer pressed, hung and ready to slip on? ...the box of chocolates wrapped up? ...freshly cut roses dropped in your favorite vase? To drink, some will take the traditional yet classic red wine and/or champagne route... but let's make it interesting, shall we?
This year, we'd like to help you impress those dearest to you. Whether it be your spouse, lover, blind-date, that hottie you've been dying to show off to or even just yourself with this hand-crafted libation of liquid love. The heartfelt pizazz this cocktail demands is nothing short of a Clark Gable one-liner. You'll simply be swept away. Whether you're at home watching Casablanca, or painting the town red with that special someone, let this be the paintbrush. Colors, flavor and effervescence kiss your palate inside this tunnel of love known simply as the "Pink Promise".
Love finds a way...
Pink Promise
As Johnny Hartman croons, "If I should find a twinkling star," the 'Pink Promise' delivers such a sparkling wonder. As your honey softens the trials of each day, the honey in this cocktail promises to ease the tingle and bite of the spirit. Infused with red rose petals, sipping this potion will turn your evening a shade of rouge that drips with ecstasy.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz Promise Punch*
3/4 oz lemon juice
3/4 oz warmed honey
3 oz sparkling rosé
Shake promise punch, lemon juice and honey in a tin with ice.
Strain into a martini glass.
Top with sparkling rosé. Garnish with a red rose petal.
*Promise Punch:
750ml call vodka
20 whole cloves
30 whole all spice
40 red rose petals
Place all ingredients in a large mason jar.
Cover and let sit at room temperature between 24 and 72 hours.
Strain and place the potion back into the vodka bottle.
Don't be scared! This is what it's supposed to look like while infusing... it's okay.
"Dedicated to You"
This song inspired us above all else because of the way Johnny Hartman's delicate yet powerful voice mesmerizes you in the first few words he sings. The sizzling brushes on the snare exude a certain comfort. The song allows you to float along your evening with a slight smile on your face knowing everything is falling into place. To top it off John Coltrane's musical tooling of the melody draws you in closer and reminds you that "a lifetime could be just one heavenly day." This day to share a 'Pink Promise' and metaphorically pledge your dedication to that special someone you're deeply in love with, the new flame you're still getting to know or the aloof passerby that shared affection some days, but others turned a cold shoulder. This song and cocktail are for you.
John Maurice Hartman (July 3, 1923 – September 15, 1983) was an American jazz singer who specialized in ballads and earned critical acclaim, though he was never widely known. He recorded a well-known collaboration with the saxophonist John Coltrane in 1963 called John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman, was briefly a member of Dizzy Gillespie's group and recorded with Erroll Garner. Most of Hartman's career was spent recording solo albums.
John William Coltrane, also known as "Trane" (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967), was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes in jazz and was later at the forefront of free jazz. He organized at least fifty recording sessions as a leader during his career, and appeared as a sideman on many other albums, notably with trumpeter Miles Davis and pianist Thelonious Monk.
As his career progressed, Coltrane and his music took on an increasingly spiritual dimension. His second wife was pianist Alice Coltrane and their son Ravi Coltrane is also a saxophonist. Coltrane influenced innumerable musicians, and remains one of the most significant saxophonists in music history. He received many posthumous awards and recognitions, including canonization by the African Orthodox Church as Saint John William Coltrane and a special Pulitzer Prize in 2007.
